Bridges

In Sonderborg Municipality there are four major bridges. 

1. King Christian the X's Bro
2. Egernsund bridge
3. Munkemøllebroen
4. Alssund Bridge

The municipality is responsible for the first three bridges, while the Alssund Bridge is state-owned and managed by the Road Directorate.

When does King Christian the X's Bridge open?

You can sail under the bridge:

• 1 April - 31 October in the period 06.30 - 22.00
• 1 November - 31 March in the period 06.30 -1 5.45

The passage can be opened every hour, the first time at 06.38, last time at 21.38 in the summer period, and 15.38 in the winter period. On weekdays there is no opening at 07.38 due to curfew.

Ships which have expressed a desire to cross can normally expect to cross the bridge within the opening hours stated in "Den Danske Havnelods". The next opening is shown in the display on the bridge pillar.

For passage outside the mentioned time period, you can contact the bridge on tel. +45 88 72 41 10 or VHF channel 16.

When the bridge is closed, the height to the lower edge of the bridge's girders in the folding section and the arch section is approx. 4,5 m. In the narrower bridge section west of the folding section, the passage height is approx. 6,0 m.

During maintenance work on the bridge it may be closed to navigation. Therefore, always remember to check for any changes on  "Den Danske Havnelods".

When does the Egernsund Bridge open?

You can sail under the bridge:

• 1 April - 31 October in the period 06.15 - 22.15
• 1 November - 31 March in the period 06.15 - 15.15 

The passage can be opened every hour, the first time at 06.15 and last time at 22.15 in the summer period and at 15.15 in the winter period.

With a closed bridge, the free height at daily water to the lower edge in the folding section is approx. 6,0 m. In other subjects, the passage height is approx. 4,5 m.

Is there a weight limit on the bridges?

There is a weight limit of 10 tonnes axle load on many of the municipality's bridges and structures. This is due to the load-bearing capacity of the bridges.
