Entry to Denmark

Read about how to report your entry and get a CPR number when you move to Denmark from abroad.

When you move to Denmark, you can apply for a Danish CPR number if you plan to stay in the country for more than 3 months.


You must apply for a Danish CPR number at the municipality to which you are moving.

How do I apply for entry to Denmark as an EU citizen?

 

If you are a citizen of an EU country, you must use the following information/documentation:

  • Proof of registration from SIRI (The Board for International Recruitment and Integration). You can apply for proof of registration at www.nyidanmark.dk or phone 72 14 20 00
    • You must make an appointment to visit in person SIRI. If you are going to live in Sønderborg municipality, you can advantageously apply for proof that your entry is registered with SIRI in Sønderborg. SIRI is located at the same address as Citizen service which will issue your CPR number. 
  • Passport
  • Documentation for Nordic social security number (if you are traveling from a Nordic country)
  • Birth certificate
  • Documentation for marital status, e.g. marriage certificate/divorce/widowhood
  • Documentation for housing in Denmark, e.g. purchase agreement or lease
  • Moving address – your address abroad from which you are moving
  • Address in Denmark: Street name, house number, floor, door, postcode, city
  • Date of moving to Denmark
  • State any former Danish CPR no.


If you have children who will be moving to Denmark with you, you must also use the following information/documentation:

  • Birth certificate for each child who moves with you
  • Documentation for parental authority
  • Power of attorney from a parent who is not moving with you to Denmark, or documentation that you do not live with the parent in question
  • Copy of passport from both parents


If you are married or divorced abroad, you can:
Find information about recognition of foreign marriage, divorce and death certificates as well as legalization of these at The Family Court's website.


Registration of entries to Denmark:
Remember that you must register your entry online. Once you have registered online, please send one e-mail to the national register and state the case number or attach the receipt.

In the email, you must write the date and time you have a personal appointment with SIRI in Sønderborg, so we know when you're coming.


You must have this with you when you show up at Borgerservice:
All documents must be original and the documents must be brought with you - even if you have already attached the documentation in the self-service solution.

 

How do I apply for entry to Denmark as a non-EU citizen?

If you are a citizen of a country outside the EU, you must use the following information/documentation:

  • Passport
  • Residence permit from the Danish Immigration Service. You can apply for a residence permit at www.nyidanmark.dk or on the phone: 35 36 66 00
  • Documentation for Nordic social security number (if you are traveling from a Nordic country)
  • Birth certificate
  • Documentation for marital status, e.g. marriage certificate/divorce/widowhood
  • Documentation for housing in Denmark, e.g. purchase agreement or lease
  • Moving address – your address abroad from which you are moving
  • Address in Denmark: Street name, house number, floor, door, postcode, city
  • Date of moving to Denmark
  • State any former Danish CPR no.
