Sønderborg is an EU Mission City

Sønderborg is one of 112 climate-ambitious EU cities - the so-called Mission Cities.

Sønderborg Municipality is part of EU Mission Cities – a joint European initiative that aims to make over 100 cities climate neutral by 2030 and create solutions that can inspire the rest of Europe's cities.

In recent years, all Danish municipalities have made climate plans for the reduction of their CO2 emissions. In Sønderborg, however, the targeted efforts began as early as 2007 with the establishment of the ProjectZero partnership – and a clear vision of creating a CO2-neutral energy system by 2029.

Today, we are working on the green transition across society. Our approach is based on close collaboration between the municipality, businesses and citizens.

ProjectZero serves as a central driving force in this effort and brings together concrete projects, innovation and knowledge sharing that contribute to realizing the goal of climate neutrality.
