Report dilapidated properties or buildings

You can help Sønderborg Municipality by reporting properties that appear dilapidated, harmful to health or unsightly to the local area. Your knowledge of the local area is an important supplement to the municipality's work to identify and prioritize buildings that may be relevant for demolition, so that we can create attractive local environments, increase safety and support sustainable development.

How do I register a property?

If you know of a dilapidated building or property, you can send an email to byg@sonderborg.dk

Please write the address of the property and a brief description of the condition of the building.

How does Sønderborg Municipality assess registered properties?

When a property is registered, we conduct a professional assessment and, if necessary, enter into dialogue with the owner of the property. All properties are assessed according to the same criteria:

• General condition of the building
• The building's residual value
• Risk of personal injury in public spaces
• Risk of unauthorized access to the building
• The building's impact on the cityscape

The registration is only information for the municipality and does not automatically give the right to demolition or financial support.

Who can register a property?

All citizens can notify the municipality of a dilapidated or unsightly property.

However, only the owner of the property or a person authorized by the owner can be the contact person in a possible demolition case.

Can you get a grant for the demolition of a property?

Owners of dilapidated buildings can contact the municipality themselves to investigate the possibilities for voluntary demolition with subsidies from the municipality and state.

To be considered for a grant, the following must be met:

• The building must be uninhabited.
• There must be no active leases.
• The building must be without significant architectural or economic value.
• It must be the owner who wants the building demolished.
• The building must not be part of a specific new construction or development project.

Subsidies for documented demolition costs can be provided based on specific negotiations with the owner.

The following buildings cannot receive subsidies for demolition:

• Protected buildings
• Buildings worthy of preservation
