If you are unemployed, pay into the early retirement scheme, and there is a maximum of five years until you reach early retirement age, you can apply for a senior job in Sønderborg Municipality.

How do I get assigned a senior job?

If you are entitled to a senior job, you should receive a letter from your unemployment insurance fund approx. three months before your unemployment benefit period expires. In the letter, the unemployment insurance fund informs you about the possibility of getting a senior job.

You must then send an application for a senior job to Sønderborg Municipality, which can be sent no earlier than 3 months before the end of the unemployment benefit period and must be received no later than 2 months after the day on which the unemployment benefit period expires.

Sønderborg Municipality subsequently invites you to an interview.

Sønderborg Municipality determines the content and scope of the senior job after the interview with you and takes into account your qualifications and interests as far as possible.

You will be employed on contractual pay and working conditions.

Who can be assigned a senior job?

To be considered for a senior job, you must meet a number of conditions. You must:

  • be available
  • continue to be a member of an unemployment insurance fund
  • continue to pay early retirement contributions
  • be able to meet the seniority requirement to receive early retirement pay when you reach early retirement age
  • have exhausted the right to unemployment benefits no earlier than five years before you reach early retirement age

While you are in a senior job, you do not earn the right to unemployment benefits. In addition, you must still be available for the labor market if the job center refers you to an ordinary job.

When will my senior job end?

When you reach early retirement age and are thus entitled to early retirement, your senior job ends. But your senior job will end earlier if you will no longer be able to take early retirement when you reach early retirement age due to non-payment of membership contributions or early retirement contributions to your social security fund, or because you have been deregistered from the social security fund. The same applies if you choose to increase your early retirement contribution before you reach early retirement age. You can also lose your right to a senior job if you are dismissed as a result of breaching your employment agreement. Finally, the senior job will end if you refuse a reasonable job that the job center refers you to.
